Is the Apple Tablet Journalism’s Savior? | The Atlantic Wire
This is something along the lines of what I am hoping for with any sort of tablet that comes out this year.
There is a lot of talk about an Apple tablet that is publicly unseen at this point. I wouldn’t put all my eggs in that basket. However, supposing this thing does come out, I’d imagine that we would see something like we did with the iPhone. It’s great, everyone wants one, and every hardware maker wants to make a look alike.
The boon here isn’t in applications or new hardware, but in major changes to the media we consume on these devices. Why develop your magazine or newspaper for just the Kindle or Apple device when it can work on all tablet computers that follow whatever standards for design that are established with this new crop of hardware? As long as we are talking about already existing standards, there is no reason this stuff can’t be cross platform (No print media DRM please…).
All it really needs is a kick start. Which I suppose is what everyone thinks this unknown Apple device will do.
I’d love to get The Atlantic and Wired paper free every month (How about week?). Sorry USPS.
I might have posted it before, but it is worth posting again: This video sparks my imagination when it comes to new forms of print media on tablet devices.
