I was trying to explain to someone at work what I thought of the proposed bailout of the auto industry. I don’t like the idea of giving GM and Chrysler government cheese to the tune of $14 billion. That is provided they can turn two hugely failing companies around in 102 days.

I couldn’t come up with much without using metaphor. Here’s what I’ve got:

Imagine I have a home. It’s rather expensive. Say $500k. I can afford it though, provided I keep my paid-off car, don’t go out often, cut back on power usage, and cut some corners here and there.

The thing is, I have a crippling coke addiction.

What the government has done is said that they are going to give me all the money I need to do whatever I think needs to be done. The only stipulation is that I need to get clean, and start paying all my bills. Maybe go back to school and get a better job. In 102 days. That’s not too much to ask right?

Clearly a better option than going on a 102 day coke binge…

How many 8balls do you think you can buy with $14 billion?
