NSFW: Trust me on the sunscreen (and the future of journalism)

Excellent! This is the point I have wanted to make with regard to real journalism.

I am convinced that there needs to be either state funding for journalism or some independent financier needs to make this case to the public. If the Kindle were $150 I’d have a subscription to the NYTimes, Newsweek and The Economist right along side my Atlantic Monthly and Wired.

Seriously, I won’t miss the two page ads and classifieds at all.

Computer Program Self-Discovers Laws of Physics | Wired Science from Wired.com

“In just over a day, a powerful computer program accomplished a feat that took physicists centuries to complete: extrapolating the laws of motion from a pendulum’s swings.”

I think they are going to charge more for this program than Mathematica…

This is the kind of stuff you would hear about as a kid and not understand (not that I understand it now by any stretch of the imagination) but that would capture your attention and imagine some impossible futures.

I like impossible futures. And I certainly don’t mind giving mathematics over to computers as a full time job. I never was good at math.
